GPS Tracking and Personal Safety

By Greg Bartlett

Everyday we are surrounded by situations that could present danger. Driving an automobile, walking through an alley, solitary outdoor exercise and many other circumstances could be potentially hazardous. GPS tracking allows you to protect yourself and give your loved ones peace of mind as you go throughout your day.

walkingteen

GPS tracking allows you to carry a transmitter which will send a signal at specified intervals to a computer. By logging in, your family can view your whereabouts at any given time or they can view a report of activities throughout the day. If you are late getting home from your morning run, for example, they can check to see that you’ve stopped to talk to a neighbor rather than worrying that you’ve been hit by a car.

GPS tracking devices come in many models. You can wear them as a wristwatch, necklace or bracelet or you can carry them in your purse or pocket. Some models can be clipped onto a belt or magnetically attached to you vehicle. Whatever your situation and tracking needs, you can find a model that can be carried easily and conveniently.

While none of us like to think of the myriad of potential hazards that surround us on a daily basis, we should take precautions to protect ourselves should one of those possibilities become reality. If the worst case scenario were to occur, could you rest easily knowing that your loved ones could be at your side in moments? With GPS tracking, you can ensure peace of mind for yourself and your loved ones, no matter what life brings your way.

GPS Navigation Fails User

by James Neely, freelance writer: click | HERE | to inquire about writing services

Here comes a story from California that chronicles the events surrounding the death of an 11 year old boy after he and his mother were stranded in Death Valley National Park.  It appears that it all started with a flat tire on their vehicle, and then soon escalated into survival after trying to use a GPS navigation device for directions.

GPS Navigation

GPS Navigation

This underscores the importance of having the right technology, and knowing how to use it properly.  GPS navigation devices are useful for finding directions and some ancillary features and benefits.  Apparently, though that was not enough for this woman in helping her to get out of her predicament.

She and her son ventured into the wilderness in order to camp for the night and enjoy the outdoors.  Doing this in such a remote location requires both planning and foresight in order to allow for the possibilities that exist in these locations.

GPS tracking devices are made for just such situations.  Here are the ways that GPS tracking can help those in dire circumstances.

Discover Location

When travelling in locations where there are few roads, GPS tracking becomes almost mandatory.  Having a signal to use to track a person or vehicle is better than having nothing.  This is especially true if there were foul play involved.  In the case above, there were very faint cell phone signals so they could not be used in tracking the missing persons.  Something more robust is necessary and that is a GPS tracking device.

Track Movement

If people or vehicles are on the move, you can know it with a GPS tracking device.  You can track in real-time and relay the location and direction of travel to local authorities who can then intercept the persons of interest.  In the case of the missing woman, it would have been easy to locate them via GPS tracking with NavIQ software from RM Tracking.

Keeps Tracking

Should your GPS tracking device become disconnected from a battery source, the internal battery keeps the unit alive and emitting a signal for tracking purposes for days.  This will aid in the tracking process.

It is easy to second-guess and play “what if” for any situation, but the fact is that having a GPS tracking device as a safety precaution is better than being without it and wishing you had one.  The benefits far out-weight the costs of these units.  The safety provided is priceless.

Being Protected by Your Car

By Greg Bartlett

You’re driving home late at night when you suddenly start to feel sick and dizzy, making it impossible to drive. You’re not sure what’s wrong, but whatever it is you need medical attention immediately. You pull off the road and wonder if you’ll be able to call home or an ambulance, and then once you do, whether they’ll be able to find you quickly.

vehicleonroadway

In New York, a woman who was apparently drunk and under the influence of marijuana got disoriented, drove the wrong way down a highway, and crashed, killing 8 people including herself. People had called 911 to alert police about a car driving the wrong way, but police were not able to locate the vehicle in time to stop the accident.

GPS vehicle tracking can do more than provide you with information about where your car has been, what stops it has made, and how fast it was going. If your car is stolen, it can help you locate the car and recover it rather than having it become one of the many thousands of stolen cars which are never returned to their owners.

But GPS vehicle tracking can also provide you with personal safety. If you’re abducted, police can use GPS tracking to find your vehicle before your kidnappers get very far. Many GPS devices have a panic button which allows the user to call home or emergency personnel if the need arises, whether kidnapping, robbery, or even illness.

If you become ill or disoriented, perhaps from a stroke or some other medical condition, GPS vehicle tracking can help your family and emergency personnel to locate you before your condition causes an accident and becomes fatal. If police had been able to use the real-time tracking information most GPS systems offer to locate the New York woman’s car, they would have found her much faster– and they may have prevented the 8 deaths.

GPS devices won’t change your lifestyle. All they do is sit in your car and allow you to monitor the car’s activities. But in an emergency, whether from illness, abduction, or some other threat, GPS vehicle tracking could save your life. It can also protect people around you if you are unable to safely operate your vehicle and need to receive help before you, too, crash and injure or kill yourself and any passengers, pedestrians, or other drivers. GPS tracking will let emergency personnel and your family – someone who can help you – know exactly where you are.

Tracking Aid Workers

By Harriette Halepis

Every day, aid workers place themselves in harm’s way in order to help those in need. Sadly, far too many aid workers go missing while attempting to help people. Up until this point, ensuring the safety of an aid worker was largely impossible, but GPS tracking may change all of that.aidworkers

Equipping an aid worker with a GPS tracking device may help countries track down these workers when they disappear. Since many GPS devices are small, it is possible to attach a tracker to clothing, shoes, or inside of a backpack.

While any abductors are sure to remove wristwatches and other noticeable GPS devices, smaller, undetectable, devices may be the best way to provide aid workers with some safety. While GPS trackers will not stop kidnappers from abducting aid workers, they will help officials find workers that have been snatched.

The abducting of aid workers is quite common in a number of developing countries. Often, citizens and radical groups within a country see foreign involvement as a massive threat to their way of life. This leads to the kidnapping of those foreign aid workers that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Why do aid workers continue to travel to countries where they are not wanted? Many believe that attempting to help people is the best way to ensure that all humans have access to basic necessities such as medical treatment, clean water, and proper sanitary measures.

To some, it may seem silly that kidnappers would focus upon those aid workers trying to help improve life. To others, kidnapping foreign aid workers makes perfect sense. Regardless, these aid workers are in real danger every time that they step off an airplane onto the soil of a population in need of help.

If GPS trackers can help aid workers from becoming victims, should government be willing to invest in GPS tracking systems? Should governments have any control over private aid groups? If so, should GPS trackers be mandatory for all aid workers traveling to dangerous countries?

From a practical point of view, the search for one aid worker can cost governments a lot of money. Simply attempting to coordinate with other country leaders, looking for a lost person, and bargaining with radical groups is a costly affair. The introduction of GPS tracking systems within the aid-working world may cut down on government costs in addition to saving the lives of those that save others.

Safety and Rescue Aid

By Greg Bartlett

You work late at night, sometimes in dark, empty areas. Your job takes you into huge warehouses past midnight, where it seems like you’re the only person there – and you hope you are. Other times you might be doing office work late at night, after everyone else has left. You tend to be jumpy as you go to your car, but at least you know one thing: your family can see exactly where you are, and if you find out that you aren’t alone, you can call for help immediately, without even using your phone.

Personal Safety

Personal Safety

You feel safe because you carry a GPS device. With the GPS tracker, your family can watch your every movement and discover exactly where you are. They can receive automatic updates as you reach locations, or you can manually send them one when you arrive.

But what really helps provide you and your family with peace of mind is your GPS device’s panic button. If you are working late and find out that someone else is there and is interested in the cashbox, it won’t matter if your cell phone’s battery is low or if you are afraid to actually say something in case the intruder notices you. All you have to do is touch a button and local authorities will be alerted. Your family will be notified, too, and can help make sure that police assistance is on the way at once.

Furthermore, your GPS device not only will alert authorities if you’re in distress, but it will help guide them to your location. If you’ve been kidnapped, a GPS tracking unit can monitor your every location and your speed, guiding help to you quickly. If you didn’t have time to hit the button, the device will still alert authorities and your family if you go outside preset boundaries, perhaps the city or even the state.

Knowing that you are safe is what gives you security as you work late at night. Furthermore, your family has peace of mind because they, too, are aware that your GPS device will enable them to monitor your location and you to call for help if needed. Whether you’re working at night and in isolated areas or traveling to remote locations or danger zones, your GPS tracking unit can give you the safety you need and the promise that you will always have assistance if you’re in danger.

Crowded City Tips

By Harriette Halepis

If you are moving to a large city for the first time, there are some things that you should be aware of. Living in a city takes talent, practice, and a bit of artistic ability – three things that take many people quite a few years to grasp.

What’s so different about living in a city? Well, for starters, cities can be home to thousands of people. When all of those people are crammed into a small space, things can become a bit iffy. The good news is that you can keep your calm with just a bit of know-how.

First things first, when it comes to taking a metro or subway at night, be sure that you know where you are going. It’s easy to get lost when you first start exploring a new city, but this can also be quite dangerous. Study a subway map before you jump onto a train – you don’t want to end up in the wrong neighbourhood.

Just in case you do wind up in the wrong place at the wrong time, it never hurts to have a backup plan. Write down the numbers of some local cab companies, and keep these numbers on you at all times. Another good idea is to carry a GPS tracker with you.

With a GPS tracker, if any harm comes to you authorities will be able to find you right away. You can think of a GPS tracker as a sort of electronic safety blanket. The next thing to think about is learning how to be aware at all times – without actually looking like you are on edge.

This is a craft that takes talent to master. If you do happen to be in a semi-dangerous area, thieves will be able to pick you out from a crowd if you are constantly looking around with a frightened expression on your face. Instead, learn to quickly glance around you, but be on the lookout for trouble at all times.

Crime within large cities is high, but this doesn’t mean that you have to be a target. Spend some time getting to know your new city. Walk around your neighbourhood, speak with your neighbours, and make an effort to become familiar with certain landmarks.

With enough practice and time, you’ll be able to get used to city living. While the city is nothing like the country, it does hold a lot of great treasures that you’ll love discovering. Just keep in mind the advice listed above, and never underestimate the reassurance of a GPS tracker.

Panic Button Protection

By Greg Bartlett

You’re walking along the street when suddenly you notice someone seems to be following you. Whether you’re a reporter in danger zone in a war-torn country or a teen in your hometown on your way back to your car, you suddenly don’t feel safe anymore. While you’re trying to remember everything you know about self-defense, there’s another fear. What if the situation escalates and you are kidnapped or attacked? Can someone find you in time to help?

Personal Safety

Personal Safety

Many people, whether traveling executives, journalists in violent areas, or everyday citizens leaving work, are concerned about their safety and wonder if they will be able to receive help if an emergency arrives. What if they can’t use their phone in time? Will anyone ever be able to find and rescue them?

A GPS device ensures your safety by not only following your every move, but also allowing you to activate a panic button in an emergency. If you find yourself in danger, you can alert family, friends, or authorities to your position and can be assured that help is on the way immediately. It can be used even if you’re just lost, but for those who routinely travel or go into dangerous areas, a GPS tracking device with a panic button could save their life.

Furthermore, a GPS device can have extra protection measures. For instance, it can alert family and authorities if you go outside predetermined boundaries, so if you already know you’re only going to be in one area while you’re researching your story but the GPS tracking device says you’re somewhere else, law enforcement can investigate and ensure that you’re safe.

If you realize you’re in a dangerous situation, you need to be able to have someone who can find you and find you quickly.

If you’re carrying a GPS device, your position can be instantly determined and any movements you make monitored while help is sent. This can be helpful even without a panic button, so that if your family becomes concerned they can check up on your location, but a panic button will alert family and authorities of immediate danger, giving you immediate help.

Your personal safety doesn’t have to be risked if you travel in dangerous areas or even just have to walk across the street at night. With a panic button in a GPS device, you and your family can have peace of mind and can know that help will be instantly on the way if needed.

GPS Tracking: Another Reason Everyone Should Carry a Cell Phone

By Greg Bartlett

Cell phones are a part of just about everyone’s daily life. Most people carry a cell phone everywhere they go and many admit that if they lost their phone, their lives would be significantly affected. Cell phones are useful for keeping track of friends and family, storing information, surfing the web, and many other functions. But did you know that cell phones can also serve as a location device? All cell phones are required to have built in GPS tracking technology for aiding law enforcement and emergency service workers if needed.

Cell Phone

Cell Phone

Many cell phone companies have begun offering tracking services to consumers as well as part of their monthly usage plans. For a small fee, you can use the GPS tracking technology that is already part of your cell phone to monitor movements of children and family members as well as to locate a lost or stolen phone.

GPS tracking works by sending a signal from the transmitter (in this case, your cell phone) to a computer or receiving device that pinpoints location. Data can be viewed in real time or as a report detailing signals sent at specified intervals over time. If the device is moving, it can also detail speed and direction of travel which is especially useful information in case of a police investigation.

Stolen cell phones can create havoc for you as the owner. A thief can easily rack up hundreds of dollars in charges before you realize that your phone has been stolen rather than simply left in the car. With GPS tracking, however, you can stop the thief in his tracks before he ruins your account.

By logging onto your computer as soon as you realize your phone is missing, you can immediately see whether you have left it in your locker at the gym or whether it has been taken. If your entire purse has been stolen with the cell phone inside, law enforcement officers benefit from the knowledge GPS tracking provides by being able to conduct a quick and accurate investigation, retrieving your stolen property as soon as possible.

Although cell phones are relatively recent additions to our culture, many people can’t imagine life without one. GPS tracking is one more way that your cell phone can make your life easier. Utilizing the technology that’s already there, you can give yourself the comfort of knowing that you have the upper hand in the event of theft and that your phone has just saved you much time and frustration during the recovery process.

Why Every Runner Should Have a GPS Tracking Device

by James Neely - freelance writer for hire

With warmer weather in the upper states comes the desire to get out and exercise more.  Running is a common physical workout for many people.  The cardiovascular workout is hard to beat.  The investment in clothes and shoes is minimal.  There are no monthly dues or fees.  And you get to experience the great outdoors at the same time.

runnerThere are inherent risks in running that should not be ignored.  These include rude drivers on streets and roads, unfettered dogs that chase after you, and even weather.

One item that runners should add to their regimen to help increase safety is a GPS Tracking device.  Here’s why:

Track progress.  If you have not yet mapped out your running circuit, then you might not know the distances which you are running.  A GPS tracking device maps your running for you so that you know exactly what distances you are running and the time that it takes you to complete your route.  This helps promote consistency of distances and times.  You can compare your times and find out how much improvement you have made over a period of time.  This becomes especially important if you are a runner that competes in marathons and mini-marathons.

Safety and security.  Having the ability to locate you in case of a problem is priceless to those who are interested in your whereabouts during your running times.  You never know what circumstances you might encounter, so it is better to be prepared than not.

Map out running routes.  Mapping out different running routes helps you to be able to run different routes so that they do not become mundane.  Also, different terrain offers different challenges to runners.  Routes that have a lot of hills add time to your runs and supply resistance which helps your body become stronger.  But, you might not want to run that route all of the time.  Or maybe run a shorter route when you do.  With a GPS tracking device, you can print out your maps and compare them and make decisions according to the data presented.

Track marathon races.  If you are into the marathons, you can track your races along with the times.  Yes, these are kept for you in the race, but you can compare your own data to see which is more accurate.  Keep a log of all of your races and use the data supplied on the GPS tracking device as your primary source of information.  You will become used to it and comfortable using it over anything else.

There are several GPS tracking devices available, but the Tracking Key is one that you should consider if you are a runner.

Medical Assistance with GPS Systems

By Greg Bartlett

Have you ever heard the statement “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”? For some people, that is a reality. And if they can’t get help to get up, serious injury and even death can occur. There are a lot of people with medical conditions that require assistance or monitoring, from tuberculosis, to dementia, to autism, to Alzheimer’s, to the hazards of simple old age.

medicalsymbol

For family members of these people, concern for their health and safety can be minimized if the individuals are cared for by someone or have access to help immediately. Some people, however, don’t want to live in nursing homes or places where they have someone who will constantly check on them. Instead, they prefer to live at home, where they’ve lived all their lives. Can these people be safe and still live at home?

Actually, yes. One way to ensure their safety is with GPS systems, which can allow concerned individuals – such as family members and medical personnel – to track the movements of the individual at all times. If someone wanders away and gets lost, the location will be sent to the family or medical personnel and the individual can be found and brought back. If someone falls or is injured, most of these GPS systems have a way to send a distress signal for help. Family or medical personnel can then check up on the individual and provide assistance if needed.

GPS systems can be especially helpful for those who wander off or could be in danger if left alone. In recent years, more medical personnel are using GPS devices to track Alzheimer’s patients to ensure that they don’t get lost or injured.

For instance, in Utah a man with autism has wandered away from home repeatedly, and police and medical personnel have had to search for him. Sometimes these searches can take hours and even days. However, once the family began using a GPS tracking device to monitor the individual, police officers were able to locate him about15 minutes after he wandered off. That’s even after the police and medical personnel took a few wrong turns while searching for him.

Families don’t have to worry about their family members with medical needs who want to live in the community. With GPS systems, they can still be safe and secure while keeping the independence they desire, and family members can relax, knowing that help will be on the way instantly if a need arises.
