Finding Your Four-Legged Friend

By Greg Bartlett

Your children have been excited about this for months, and if you’re honest with yourself, you have been, too. Today you’re bringing home your new Samoyed puppy. She’s fluffy, white, cute, and excited about being a member of your family. Now that you’ve finally got her in your arms, you know this is going to be the perfect dog for you.

After hours of playing with her and showing your puppy her new yard and toys, you finally go inside to eat your supper. Your kids are eager to go back outside to play with her some more, and when you finally let them, they come running back inside moments later, crying that the puppy isn’t there.

Your Samoyed puppy was expensive, so you definitely don’t want to lose her. Besides, you’ve already fallen in love. Thankfully, there is an easy way to find her. When you brought her home, you took the precaution of putting her collar on – and on the collar, there’s a GPS device.

The GPS device will allow you to pinpoint your puppy’s exact location. You didn’t have time to set it up today, but you’ll be able to create a geo-fence, and if your puppy wanders outside that boundary again, you’ll be instantly alerted with a phone call or text message. Right now, though, all you have to do is go to the computer and check to see where your puppy went. The GPS device is informing you that she’s in the area of the nearby creek, and since you can also monitor her speed, you can tell it looks like she’s there on her own – not stolen.

If someone does come along and spots your expensive puppy and doesn’t want to give her back, well, you’ll at least be informed. The collar is lockable and if it’s removed without using the key, you’ll receive an alert. You can then call police immediately with your puppy’s last location. Right now, though, that’s not necessary. All you have to do is head out to the creek and retrieve your exploring Samoyed.

Your GPS device will help you keep track of your puppy while she grows. Even if she never loses her curiosity and desire to explore, you’ll always be able to find out where she is. Your lovable new family member can continue to play and enjoy your family instead of getting lost and then stolen, injured, or even killed.

How to Keep Your Pet Cool

By Harriette Halepis

Animals are impacted by rising temperatures just as much as humans are, so why not help your pet cool down? Here are some quick ways to ensure that your pet doesn’t become overwhelmed by the heat.

1. Water: water is your pet’s best friend. Always keep cool water with you wherever you go, and make sure that you per has plenty of cool water during the daytime. If you have to leave your home, ask a friend or neighbour to fill up two large bowls of cold water every day – your pet will thank you!

2. Create a Shady Spot: do you keep your dog outside all day long? If so, make sure that you set up a shady spot where you dog can rest comfortably. Consider investing in an automatic watering bowl if you can’t stick around to fill up your dog’s water throughout the day.

3. Stay Near: all pet owners should know better than to leave a pet inside of a car on a hot day. Still, hundreds of pets die each year due to neglect. If you have to travel with your pet, stay close to them – never leave an animal unattended in a car.

4. Paw Protection: a dog’s paws are very sensitive to hot pavement. Try and walk your dog during the morning or at night.

5. Track Your Pet: if you aren’t home during the day (but your pet is outside) think about buying a GPS tracking collar. This way, you can easily find your pet if they come down with heat stroke (this happens quite often with dogs!), or wander into a shady area that they can’t get out of.

Where’s Rover?

By Greg Bartlett

You love your dog, Rover, but sometimes he’s a headache. He likes to live up to his name, but your fear is that eventually he will be one of the millions of dogs who get lost each year. After all, approximately one third of all pet dogs go missing at least once, and Rover has already exceeded his quota. You’re always afraid that the next time he gets out will be the last time you ever see him.

If you put a GPS device on Rover’s collar, you won’t have to worry so much. You can check while you’re at work to see if Rover is still there, and if Rover escapes, you’ll be alerted instantly by text message, phone call, or email. Because you can preset the boundaries for Rover to, for instance, your yard and house, if Rover leaves those boundaries, you’ll know immediately.

So Rover does escape, and you get a text message and head out to find him. You can follow his progress in real time and receive turn-by-turn directions from the GPS device about how to find him, plus you can even watch how fast he’s moving. That may not seem important, but if Rover is stolen and is placed inside a vehicle, the speed will be vastly different than if Rover’s just roaming on his own four paws. Some GPS systems will even send you an alert if your pet’s speed exceeds a preset limit, so that if Rover suddenly starts going forty-five miles an hour, you’ll know something is up.

Your GPS device also has an LED light built in, so it’ll be easier to find Rover at night. Furthermore, some devices, like the SpotLight device developed by Positioning Animals Worldwide, Inc. and American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery, allow you to have a team of professionals on hand to help you with the tracking and recovery process 24 hours a day.

Keeping track of Rover is easier than ever, and now you can have peace of mind knowing that your pet is safe. Even if Rover does manage to pull one of his trademark escaping acts, you’ll be able to track him with your GPS device and retrieve your pet before he is injured, stolen, or permanently lost. Recovering your pet is important, and using a GPS tracking device may be the key to ensuring your pet’s safety and health and guaranteeing that you will be reunited with Rover.

Where, Oh Where, Has Your Dog Gone?

By Greg Bartlett

Dogs get lost constantly. Some dogs are escape artists, digging or climbing their way to freedom, or perhaps even figuring out how to work the latch. Others are just powerful enough to break the fence or pull along whatever they were fastened to that was supposed to keep them there. Some might be overly enthusiastic while hiking, hunting, or camping and get too far away from their owners. Some dogs may even get scared by noises or visitors and run off in fear.

Hikers and hunters, who take their dogs out into the woods and other remote areas, may have particular trouble losing their dogs, but even in a city your dog may become lost. For instance, a lawyer’s two Malamutes were tied to a picnic table behind a six-foot fence. Nevertheless, they got out, pulling the table with them. Jack Russell terrier and Beagle owners report that their dogs often dig their way out or find some small hole to escape from the fenced yard. So sometimes all the precautions you may take – a fence and leash, for instance – may not be enough. Your dog may still get lost.

Naturally you want your pet back. Sometimes this is hard to achieve, especially when your dog may have been picked up by someone else who noticed your pet running loose. Thankfully, technology now allows pet owners to monitor their dogs with a GPS tracking device in their dog’s collar.

A GPS tracking device can let owners know where their dog is at all times, and can notify the owner should the dog leave a predetermined boundary, say, your back yard. It can notify the owner about the dog’s speed, which would indicate if it’s on its own or if it’s in a car, which may occur if the dog is stolen. The GPS tracking device will provide the owner with constant monitoring of the dog’s activities and can even provide directions to the dog’s location. With an LED light in the device which can be turned on with a text message, finding the dog in the dark is also possible.

Finding out where your dog has gone if it gets lost is important to you. With a GPS tracking device, you can have peace of mind knowing that whether your dog is an escape artist, strong enough to break through the fence, or gets too excited chasing a squirrel, you can find your dog again.

GPS Tracking Provides Peace of Mind for Pet Owners

By Greg Bartlett

If you’re like most pet owners, you probably harbor a secret fear of your pet escaping and becoming lost or injured. Signs that read “Reward for Lost Dog” bring a sinking feeling. After all, if it could happen to someone else’s beloved pet, it could happen to yours too. Although you’ve taken numerous precautions to keep your pet safe, you always wonder if there might be something more you could do. GPS tracking devices give you an extra edge for your pet’s protection. They are the something more that could mean the difference between finding and not finding your dog if he runs away or gets lost.

GPS tracking devices for pets are available as a harness that your pet wears like a backpack or as a collar mounted system. The transmitter sends a signal to your computer that lets you know the location of your pet at any time. Most models allow you to set boundaries for your pet as well which if crossed will trigger an alert to be sent to you. If you plan to travel out of the area and take your pet with you, you can set up a new set of boundaries once you reach your destination, ensuring that Fido is safe on vacation as well.

In addition to helping locate lost pets, GPS tracking devices also prove useful in the event that your dog is stolen. Pet theft is on the rise, especially for purebreds and small, easily concealed dogs which can quickly be resold at a profit. While it’s true that a thief could remove the GPS unit from your pet’s collar, many aren’t aware that these units are available for pets and therefore don’t think of taking this precaution. More often than not, the GPS transmitter will aid you in recovering your furry companion in the event that he is stolen.

Dog owners seem to have an instant common bond with one another. No one but another dog owner can understand the special relationship you have with your four-footed companion or the anxiety that you suffer when you’re worried about his safety. A GPS tracking device for your pet gives you peace of mind that you’ll never have a “Reward for Lost Dog” sign posted with your dog’s picture on it, since you’ll be able to instantly locate him at any time. It’s the best gift you could give to show your love for Fido.
