Investigating people for hire is a sometimes an unseemly business. Those who do so must have an extra layer of insulation against the feelings of being a little sleazy. But, this small area of society has its mundane aspects and needs the benefits that can be provided by GPS Tracking systems.

Gathering information and data on a person of interest requires tedious work. An investigator needs every advantage that they can legally use. GPS Tracking systems are but one tool in their arsenal, but arguably can be the most effective.

When it comes to tracking the movements of people, attaching a simple, standalone GPS Tracking device to a vehicle is one of the best uses of this technology.

By verifying location, direction and speed, an investigator can put together a report showing a person’s whereabouts with incredible accuracy.

Whether it is a cheating spouse, or a person engaged in illegal activities, evidentiary support is needed to back up claims made. Many times police agencies will not pursue leads or accusations against someone unless there is more than ample probable cause to even begin the investigation process.

Adhering to legal standards must be maintained or cases get thrown out and the work is done in vain.
Police use of GPS Tracking devices prove that they are effective in being able to add to the list of evidence against an accused. Courts are in the midst of trying to determine the constitutional nature of the use of these information gathering units.

Private investigators often find themselves operating outside of known laws or accepted activities. Their goal is to serve their client first by delivering information and data. Then, the person who has hired them must determine what to do with that information.

In either case, the ability of a GPS Tracking system in obtaining information is priceless. It falls into the category of holding people accountable for their actions. If those actions are along the lines of moral acts and not illegal, then chances are high that a relationship is at stake and before accusations are thrown about, evidence is required to make sure they are indeed based in fact.

There is little doubt that GPS Tracking systems have their place, but caution is in order in their use and application for investigative purposes. An old saying goes “those who live by the sword, die by the sword.” Being engaged in activities in support of obtaining information in an unseemly way puts one in a position that they would rather not find themselves. Sometimes, however, for the sake of integrity, it must be done.

Last week news outlets reported that one lawmaker in Georgia wants to make it illegal for people to use hidden GPS devices and some private investigators are concerned.

Right now it is perfectly legal to track a person using a GPS device that is placed on a car, even if it is placed in such a way that it is not visible. You can put a hidden GPS device on a car, provided that you install this GPS device in a public place.

The proposal in Georgia would make it illegal to place a GPS tracking device on a person’s car without that person’s consent, whether the device was installed in private or public. This law, if it passed, would effect private citizens and would in on way keep the police from using GPS tracking devices. The lawmaker who is proposing this legislation was at one time a prosecutor, so he is familiar with the workings of law enforcement.

Private investigators think that this may affect their work. One private investigator said that not being able to use GPS tracking devices could possibly put members of his profession in danger. Now, they can monitor activity from a computer. Should it turn out that private investigators cannot used GPS tracking devices, investigative tracking would have to do more in-person surveillance.

<IMG SRC="http://www.rmtracking.com/gpsproducts/PT-200-XL.jpg" WIDTH="301" HEIGHT="217" style="float: right; BORDER="0" ALT="www.RMTracking.com">
Can you imagine what would happen if you learned that one of the most crucial tools for your job was going to be taken away? Yes, the old gumshoes used to tail and track people without technology, but that does not mean they would not have welcomed some technological assistance. Plus, this is a new era. Investigators have no tools and so do criminals. If an investigator can avoid having to chase after someone, it is probably in their best interest to do so.

GPS tracking devices help the police and private investigators make informed decisions and get the solid evidence they need to close their cases. They can receive up to the minute alerts via e-mail, cell phone or through web-based monitoring. Getting instant notification of when a subject is within a certain proximity to a predetermined location can make a big a difference when it comes to closing a case because timing is everything.

GPS tracking devices like Rocky Mountain Tracking’s PT-200 have become one of the most effective tools commonly used among law enforcement and private investigators.
