No doubt you have been hearing a lot about foreclosure lately, but what you have not been hearing about as much is the rising number of car repossessions. In fact, one news source reported that the number of car repossessions is the highest it has been in 10 years.

<IMG SRC="http://www.rmtracking.com/gpsproducts/smarttrack-screen8-mini.gif" WIDTH="230" HEIGHT="160" style="float: right; BORDER="0" ALT="www.RMTracking.com">
What you also may not know is that the law makes provision for the original owner of a car that has been repossessed to get their vehicle back. Laws may vary based on your jurisdiction, but if your car is about to be repossessed you do have options. You are supposed to get a certain number of days to pay off what you owe. You are also supposed to be notified as to when the vehicle is going up for sale.

But what happens if the bank and the repo company don’t go by the book? What if you are not given the notifications that you were supposed to get? And supposed that you have a change of fortune and find that you can afford to pay what is necessary to keep your car? If your car has been repossessed and you don’t know where it is, how can you make sure you can pay what you owe or even bid for it?

“If these vehicles had our Smart Track GPS tracker device installed in them, there is a much better chance the vehicles could be recovered,” says Brad Borst, President of Rocky Mountain Tracking. “With our Smart Track, there are no monthly fees; a customer only pays a few dollars if they have to recover the vehicle.”

Smart Track has already worked on recovering vehicles that were stolen; it can also help you track down your vehicle if it has been repossessed. The geo-fence reports each time your asset moves in or out of a predetermined area from 1/8th of a mile to 300 miles. You can set up to two geo fences at one time.

Smart track provides on-demand web-based vehicle tracking and vehicle Recovery. With the Smart Track, you don’t pay if you don’t track. Locate commands update the current position of your vehicle. One locate is used each time the command is sent. The number of available locates depends on the account you choose, plus locates can be shared with all of your vehicles. So when you decide on live tracking with the Smart Track vehicle tracking system there are no monthly fees.

Law enforcement officers in North Carolina used the GPS device installed by a truck’s owner to track the truck to the location where the thieves left it. The thieves not only stole the truck in question, but they then used it to make a stop at a motorcycle dealership, where they loaded it up with motorcycles in an attempt to get away with even more stolen vehicles.

The owner of the motorcycle dealership says that his store has 16 security cameras and a top of the line security system. He also employs security personnel, but unfortunately, his security detail was not present on the day of the theft. All of these precautions that were taken did not prevent the theft. The motorcycle dealership did not install GPS tracking devices on their merchandise.

So it is kind of a tale of two owners. The truck owner had a GPS tracking device on his vehicle. The motorcycle dealership had various sophisticated security measures in place. When it came to recovering the stolen property, who’s foresight mattered more? The truck owner’s.

Since the truck owner had installed a GPS tracking device on his vehicle, this helped authorities track not only his truck, but it also lead them to the evidence they needed to help them also solve the mystery of hte stolen motorcycles. So far, they have not arrested anyone yet. but being able to track the stolen truck has helped them to gather evidence.

Did you know that a GPS-based solution can make your equipment or vehicle virtually theft proof?

A GPS anti theft tracking unit can give the location of you vehicle instantly allowing you to recover it. Plus, GPS systems for theft tracking and theft recovery can lower your insurance costs.

If you chose a proper GPS anti-theft tracking system it will still give you a location even if the thief cuts the battery cable. Depending on the type of GPS anti-theft system you purchase, you can track your vehicle on a regular basis improving efficiency and monitoring driving habit or you can purchase an on-demand system that only tells you the location when you need it.

Visit Rocky Mountain Tracking to read more about how a GPS tracking device can help in vehicle recovery.

On Monday, we discussed how a GPS tracking device from Rocky Mountain Tracking was used to recover a stolen BMW.

Maybe you are wondering just how this was possible. After all, there are many stolen vehicles that are never found. In this particular case, the thief (who had defaulted on car payments made with stolen money) had driven the vehicle to the city of Atlanta, which was 600 miles away from its original location.

According to Brad Borst of Rocky Mountain Tracking, “There were about 1.5 million auto repossessions last year, up by at least 10 per cent from 2006. But repossession is not always easy when vehicle owners move or leave the state. Unlike the 20-year-old technology that is still on the market, RM Tracking’s GPS tracking solution offers advanced technology with live web-based tracking – every auto recovery agent’s true friend.”

That was certainly proved in this recently incident. Stephen Stough of Stough Intertational, a private investigative firm, was able to call RM Tracking for customer support. He got in touch with technical supervisor Cory Cowger. Cowger was able to give Stough live positions of the vehicle from the web-based tracking software. Getting information like the location, direction of travel and vehicle speed helped Stough to locate the stolen BMW. In fact he was able to get the car without incident when it came to a stop.

Sure it probably wasn’t nearly as exciting as a car chase in the movies, but Stough and the vehicle’s owner are probably glad (as you would be if your vehicle had to be recovered).

You can learn more about GPS tracking and vehicle recovery at RM Tracking’s website.
