Wiring the Starter Disable

If you have chosen a GPS unit that has a starter disable, you’ll need to follow the installation steps listed below. Installing a starter disable unit is not difficult. In order to make this process even easier for you, we’ve written up a few simple steps for you to follow.

Steps for Starter Disable:

  1. Find the red relay socket. Make sure that this wire is connected to the starter loop. Cut the starter wire in half, and connect the red wire to each side of the starter wire.


  2. Strip away ¼ of the wire’s insulation. Using the provided crimp-on connection, connect the red wire.


  3. Next, find the blue wire that’s part of the relay socket. Connected this wire to the other side of the starter wire. Remove insulation, and use the crimp-on connecter to connect the blue wire.


  4. Find the ignition wire (behind the vehicle’s steering column). Remove ½ inch of the plastic coating in order to expose copper wire.


  5. Separate the vehicle’s constant power lead with a small pin or jeweler’s screwdriver.


  6. Remove ½ of insulation from the brown wire. Insert this into the new ignition wire hole.


  7. Solder the connection.


  8. Using electrical tape, cover all exposed wire areas.


  9. Plug the relay wire into the relay socket.


  10. You’re Finished!
